OnePlus 12 Unveiled, Promising Tremendous Power and Rapid Charging

OnePlus has officially unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 12, in its home market of China, with a global release set for early 2024. Boasting cutting-edge features, this device aims to compete not just as a "flagship killer" but as a top-tier flagship in its own right.

In terms of design, the OnePlus 12 appears to be an evolution of its predecessor, the OnePlus 11, featuring a metal and glass build with a distinctive asymmetrical camera bump at the back. The handset comes in three color options, each with a unique finish: glossy white, sandstone-textured black (a OnePlus trademark), and a green variant with a marble-like effect. The alert slider, a distinctive OnePlus feature, has been relocated to the left side of the phone.

Differentiating itself from competitors like the iPhone 15 and Samsung Galaxy S23, the OnePlus 12 maintains curved edge glass for its 6.82-inch screen. The display boasts impressive specs, including a 120Hz LTPO variable refresh rate, AMOLED panel, and a remarkable 4500 nits peak brightness – nearly double that of Google’s Pixel 8 Pro.

Under the hood, the OnePlus 12 is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, offering CPU gains of up to 30%, GPU improvements of up to 25%, and a 10% increase in power efficiency compared to the previous generation. To manage heat during intensive tasks, OnePlus has introduced the new Dual Cryo-velocity cooling system. The device offers a substantial memory configuration, ranging from 16GB to 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, depending on the model.

The OnePlus 12 packs a sizable 5400mAh battery, a notable upgrade from the OnePlus 11's 5000mAh cell. Charging is swift at 100W over USB-C, and it supports 50W on a compatible wireless charging plate.

Collaborating with Hasselblad for the cameras, the OnePlus 12 features a 50MP main camera with a Sony-developed LYT808 sensor, a 64MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 48MP ultrawide lens. Improved HDR algorithms are expected to enhance image quality across various lighting conditions.

For Chinese consumers, the OnePlus 12 will be available starting December 10, with pre-sale prices ranging from ¥4299 (approximately £478) for the 12GB + 256GB variant to ¥5799 (about £645) for the 24GB + 1TB model. Global availability and pricing details are yet to be announced, but an event in January is anticipated, with prices likely to be higher due to shipping and exchange rates.
