In a recent development, the Ukrainian Air Force declared on Saturday that it successfully thwarted a drone assault from Russia overnight, managing to take down an impressive 30 out of 31 drones launched by Moscow.
The attack wasn't limited in scope, as it targeted various regions, including the capital city of Kyiv, the southern Kherson region, and the western Khmelnytsky region. The Ukrainian Air Force released a statement, revealing, "A total of 31 Shahed-136/131 attack drones were used in the attack, which the occupiers sent to different regions of Ukraine."
Notably, Kherson had been reclaimed by Ukrainian forces in November 2022, but it has continued to endure relentless shelling from Russian forces stationed across the Dnipro River.
On the other side of the conflict, Russian authorities reported that one individual lost their life in the overnight Ukrainian bombings on the occupied southern Kherson region. The situation remains tense, with both sides providing updates on the ongoing events in the region.
The governor of Russia's Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, disclosed that in the last 24 hours, there have been 41 Ukrainian strikes on the territory, which shares a border with Ukraine.
Adding to the escalating tensions, Russia reported on Friday that it successfully thwarted a series of Ukrainian drone attacks in two border regions. Specifically, the Russian defense ministry stated that over a span of two hours, 26 drones were downed over the Crimea peninsula, which was annexed from Ukraine in 2014. However, the statement did not mention any casualties or damage resulting from the incident.
Providing additional information, the ministry communicated through Telegram posts that six drones, aiming at "installations on Russian territory," were also intercepted in the Kursk region. Notably, details on any specific targets or further consequences were not provided in this update. The situation along the border continues to unfold as both sides grapple with the evolving dynamics of the conflict.
Drone attacks have become nearly a daily occurrence in Russia's border regions, though large-scale assaults are less frequent.
Conversely, Russia continues its daily bombardment of Ukrainian towns. In a significant escalation this week, a substantial drone attack was launched in southern Ukraine. Additionally, ballistic missiles were fired at Kyiv, resulting in approximately 50 people sustaining injuries from falling debris. The situation remains tense as both sides grapple with the ongoing hostilities in the region.
